Sheila Holt with Paul Dunn Chairman of B1G1
In 2007, a group of small-business owners had an idea. They asked, “What would happen if we all gave back just by doing the things we do every day?” It was a question that deeply inspired them.
Three years and a great undertaking later, they were able to design the systems and processes necessary to make it work, and their dream is now a reality. The initiative was backed by the idea that companies would make a giving impact with each designated business transaction. Today, the BIG1 initiative has more than 2,100 businesses from around the world—each making significant impacts every day.
B1G1 is a social enterprise and non-profit organisation with a mission to create a world full of giving. B1G1 helps small and medium-sized businesses achieve more social impact by embedding giving activities into everyday business operations and creating unique giving stories.
This goal is aimed at protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems
Some of the targets under this goal include: –
By protecting our ecosystems on land we are ensuring and protecting habitat for all creatures.
Tusk’s mission is to amplify the impact of progressive conservation initiatives across Africa. Poaching, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict are having a devastating impact on Africa’s wildlife.
It may not grab the headlines, but habitat loss remains the greatest threat to the vast majority of wildlife, including 85% of all threatened species. Approximately half of the world’s original forests are gone and what remains is still being removed ten times faster than it can be replaced.
The survival of many African species is dependent on healthy, connected habitat. This is particularly important for species such as lion, elephant and wild dog that require large ranges and the existence of vital migratory routes. The African Elephant population has decreased by around 90% in the last century. An estimated 415,000 currently remain. Status vulnerable!
As well as protecting African Elephant, Rhino and Lion, Tusk’s projects are playing a critical role in the survival of Cheetah, Chimpanzee, Eastern Lowland and Mountain Gorillas, Painted Dog, Grevy’s Zebra, Giant Sable, Cape Vulture, Crowned Sifaka, Hawksbill Turtle and many more.
Save a Dog – Help a Veteran and improve the lives of both.
Service Dogs UK aims to support and assist veterans of the armed forces and members of the emergency services who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We want to give back some of the commitment they have given to our society through their service. We also want to give rescue dogs a second chance. Service Dogs UK trains and provides assistance dogs to support members of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services who have PTSD. We use dogs from rescue centres to achieve unique partnerships that will greatly enhance the lives of both.
